With the Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys holding the first of two joint practice sessions Wednesday, both teams were fired up. On two occasions, the Cowboys and Raiders got into it. After a stagnant performance in the first preseason game, the Raiders were energized by the competition with the Cowboys and the support of Raiders' fans.
“I’m going to start off by just saying, what a hell of an atmosphere to practice football in,” Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said. “That’s what Raider Nation is really all about, man. That was awesome to see those guys come out and support us like that. It almost felt like, at times, that I had to quiet the crowd down just so we could get some plays off. It was a great atmosphere. It was great work against these guys.”
Raider Nation poured in Oxnard, California to see and show support to the Raiders. Looking at Twitter after practice and you would find some appreciative Oakland players. The atmosphere provided by Raiders' fans really picked up the team and brought some life back into the silver and black.
“It’s fantastic the support, the fans that showed up and really showed up in a big way for us,” quarterback Matt Schaub said. “It’s just a testament to the rich tradition of the Raider Nation. It was fantastic to have that type of support today.”
The teams will be back on the field toady for their second session. The first joint practice may have provided the Raiders with the boost they needed. The pure excitement and intensity the Raiders players displayed after practice was staggering. Now, the Raiders must carry that momentum into the preseason game against the Detroit Lions Friday night and use it to improve.
