It was a drastic improvement for most of the teams in the AFC West. Both the San Diego Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs improved from last year and took advantage to make the playoffs. The Denver Broncos are the number one overall seed in the AFC. The only team to finish with a losing record and out of the playoff picture is the Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders made their own bed by dropping winnable games throughout the season. San Diego was able to sneak into the playoffs with an 9-7 record. Oakland blew games against the Washington Redskins, Tennessee Titans, and Dallas Cowboys. They also had chances to win against the New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts, and San Diego Chargers in the second meeting. If the Raiders took care of business in just the majority of those games, they would have had life at the end of the season. Instead they lost their last six games to finish the year and dropped three straight to AFC West teams in their final three games.
Oakland finished with only one win the AFC West this season beating the Chargers in their first meeting. Denver embarrassed them both times, including Sunday where Peyton Manning tossed four touchdowns and 266 yards before halftime. That onslaught gave him the most touchdown passes ever with 55 and the most yards in a single season, edging Drew Brees by a yard. It also made Denver the highest scoring team in NFL history.
Now, it is time to move on to next season, a philosophy Raiders fans are getting sick of. The team will have a large amount of cap space to improve the roster as well as the fifth pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. There will be no excuses for the Raiders not to be in the hunt in the AFC West next year.AFC West, Denver Broncos, Drew Brees, Football, Kansas City Chiefs, NFL, NFL Draft, Oakland, Oakland Raiders, Peyton Manning, San Diego Chargers
