The Oakland Raiders dropped their fourth straight game and were swept for the first time since 2006 by the Kansas City Chiefs in a 55-31 loss. It was the most combined points ever in a Raiders versus Chiefs game. Oakland drops to 4-10 on the season while the Chiefs improve to 11-3.
The story of the game was turnovers by the Raiders. Quarterback Matt McGloin threw four interceptions, one of which was returned for a 47 yards touchdown by Eric Berry. McGloin also lost a fumble and Terrelle Pryor threw another late interception. Oakland gave the ball away seven times total including a Taiwan Jones fumbled kickoff.
Kansas City scored touchdowns on seven of their 12 drives. Running back Jamaal Charles caught four touchdowns, where the Raiders were unable to put a finger on him. He also ran for a score. Three of Charles touchdowns came on screen passes of 49, 39 and 16 yards where he walked untouched into the endzone. The Raiders also lost him on a 71 yard touchdown, where he again went into the endzone without a defender touching him. Teams are exposing the Raiders when they blitz and making them pay with touchdowns.
The Chiefs were able to amass 384 total yards and average 7.5 yards per play. Quarterback Alex Smith had a career day completing 17-20 passes for 287 yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions.
The Raiders moved the ball easily against the Chiefs racking up 461 yards on 74 plays. The problem was they could not protect the ball. Running back Rashad Jennings rushed 23 times for 91 yards and two scores. McGloin finished the day 18-36 for 297, two touchdowns and the four interceptions. Andre Holmes and Mychal Rivera caught the touchdowns for Oakland.
