The Oakland Raiders will give Matt McGloin the start Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, head coach Dennis Allen announced Wednesday. The undrafted rookie won his debut last week against the Houston Texans on the road 28-23. Former starter Terrelle Pryor was limited in practice Wednesday and his status for Sunday is uncertain.
McGloin shined in his first career start, completing 18-32 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns. He did not turn the ball over and made good reads and crisp throws. That earned him another opportunity to go Sunday at home. One of the most important elements of McGloin's play Sunday was his ability to get the ball out quickly and accurately.
Pryor is still hampered by a sprained MCL in his knee. He was able to practice in a limited fashion on Wednesday. He practiced in limited fashion last Thursday and Friday, but was unable to play. He will be monitored for the rest of the practice week and will be the number two quarterback on Sunday if healthy. The Raiders could use him in some offensive packages to spell McGloin.
Last week McGloin went against the number one rated pass defense in terms of yards allowed. This week he will play against a Tennessee Titans defense ranked seventh in the NFL, allowing 213.1 yards per game.
