The Oakland Raiders received good news today that quarterback Terrelle Pryor has been cleared to play. However, the team will be cautious with Pryor and evaluate him tomorrow before making a decision whether or not he will play Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
I liked the progress that I’ve seen out of him over the last few days,” Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said of Pryor. “We’re going to still continue to monitor him, but he’s made some significant progress.”
Pryor was able to do more work at Friday's practice, but still participated in a limited fashion. Despite Pryor passing the NFL concussion protocol tests, the team still wants him to pass another test administered by them.
“He’s been cleared,” Allen said. “It’s not something that has to be done. It’s something that we want to do. I want to make sure that we’re making the right decision for this kid.”
Give the Raiders credit for caring about their players. They could easier parade him out Sunday, but they want to make sure he is healthy. Pryor is officially listed as questionable and the situation will be very clear by tomorrow. If Pryor is unable to go, Matt Flynn will start. Even if Pryor passes the final team test, Allen would not say whether he would start.
“Yeah, we haven’t made that decision,” Allen said of the starting quarterback. “The biggest thing is, I like where he’s at. I like where he’s at mentally. Medically, we’re going to continue to evaluate him. He’s cleared medically. We want to get one more evaluation on him tomorrow to see how he responded.”
Among other injured Raiders, cornerback Tracy Porter and linebacker Sio Moore are listed as probable. Defensive end Jason Hunter and guard Lucas Nix are questionable. Safety Tyvon Branch and tackle Menelik Watson are out, but Allen believes Watson could practice next week.
