When the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos meet for the 17th time on Monday Night Football, the Broncos will be missing two key pieces of their offense and defense. All-Pro left tackle Ryan Clady was injured last week against the New York Giants and two time Pro-Bowler Von Miller is serving a six game suspension.
The injury to Clady appears to be a LisFranc foot injury. The Raiders are very familiar with this having lost Darren McFadden for a large stretch in 2011 as well as losing wide receiver Jacoby Ford to the injury all of last season. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports he will be replaced on the IR ending his season. Undrafted tackle Chris Clark will replace Clady protecting Peyton Manning's blind side. Clark is an undrafted rookie in his fifth season with the Broncos. He has started six games in his career, all during the 2011 season. He will get a steady dose of the Raiders best pass rushing option, defensive end Lamaar Houston.
Miller is serving his six game suspension as a result of violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. The former second overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft has 30 sacks in just two seasons. In the four games he has played against the Raiders since entering the league, Miller amassed 19 tackles, 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles as the Broncos hold a 3-1 record in those games.
The Broncos could also be without their best cornerback if Champ Bailey is unable to go for the third straight week. Bailey has missed the first two games of the season dealing with a foot injury.
The Broncos aren't at full strength this week and are ripe for the picking. This Oakland Raiders Helmet from MJR Sports Integrity is full-size – and definitely ripe for the picking!
For the Raiders, they will be missing safety Tyvon Branch, who needed to be helped off the field against the Jaguars with an ankle injury. Head coach Dennis Allen believes the injury is serious and Branch will miss significant time. On the positive side, tight end David Ausberry has a chance to play on Monday after missing the first two games with a shoulder injury. It is not official, but if Ausberry can get on the practice field he will play.
