The Oakland Raiders opened a roster spot Monday by waiving linebacker Mario Kurn. Kurn spent the entire 2012 season on injured reserve after injuring a knee in training camp.

Kurn was signed as an undrafted free agent prior to last season. In 2010, Kurn led the nation with 17 sacks for the University of San Diego. He had not seen the field as a member of the Raiders before his release.

General manager Reggie McKenzie rebuilt the linebacking corps this offseason with the additions of Kaluka Maiava, Nick Roach, Kevin Burnett and selecting Sio Moore in the 2013 NFL Draft. With all the new faces at the position, it comes as no surprise the team parted ways with Kurn.
