Oakland Raiders middle linebacker Rolando McClain is a game time decision when the team hosts the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday. He suffered a toe injury and has been limited in practice this week. The former first round pick is listed as questionable on the injury report.
“Yeah, he’s got a toe, which really cropped up on Wednesday,” Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said. “But he’s been able to practice all week a little bit in a limited fashion, but he’ll probably be a game-time decision.”
McClain has thrived in a new role this season for the Raiders. He is not on the field in the team's nickle package because of his issues in coverage. However, with his focus on stopping the run or rushing the passer, he has excelled. So far this season, McClain has 36 tackles, one sacks and one forced fumble.
With the Raiders focused on stopping a balanced Tampa Bay offense, McClain is a key cog. Running back Doug Martin is coming off a huge game where he accounted for 214 total yards of offense and two touchdowns. Oakland is counting on McClain along with linebackers Philip Wheeler and Miles Burris to keep him in check.
